"God bless the skwew dwivaas and the wenches. Thank you for the hammaas and the nails and God bless my twool belt." - Me, age 2 yrs.

Yeah, I actually said that and it was adorable. I can get you the audio clip. I was told to say some prayers before bed and luckily someone had a tape recorder nearby because what I began to lay out there into the spiritual universe was pure genius. I said it then and I stand by it today. Tools are one of the greatest things mankind has ever invented and here is the real reason why... We use tools every single day in different forms. We could be talking about an actual physical tool like a compound miter saw, or we could be talking about a learning tool like a heuristic or a paradigm.

Books are another fantastic example. (or youtube for the new millennium) When you use these tools you stand on the shoulders of giants who came before you. Amazing and inventive thinkers had a problem or a goal they wanted to accomplish, there was an idea that they wanted to get from their head into the world. They looked around and realized there was nothing in their possession that could accomplish this new way of thinking and so they invented a tool for the specific job.

That should blow your mind. It should also teach you something (I know it has taught me): There is nothing that cannot be built, no idea that cannot be realized. If the tool doesn’t exist, invent it. That is what building is for me. Whether I am building houses, motorcycles, simple carpentry, carving spoons, pottery, growing a garden, reading a book...whatever it is, every time
I build I learn and I keep some skill alive. Hopefully I am getting that much closer to inventing something unique that will be passed on.
